Using Pinterest to grow your business is a great strategy to implement. Jana O., Pinterest Strategist shares the three phases of Pinterest to attract raving fans and perfect fit clients.

SETUP + OPTIMIZE

So, firstly, pin and optimize are the actions you take when using Pinterest. Optimizing involves utilizing your own framework, where you conduct keyword research, set up your profile, write your bio, and create properly keyword-optimized boards. These steps are important for maximizing the effectiveness of your boards and other related activities. This can take a few hours, days or a week depending on your process.

PIN + GROW

This second phase, which typically lasts around six months, it's important to set up a pinning system also referred to as a ‘'pin plan.' This plan will guide you through the first six months. Regardless of your approach, the plan should be easy to implement. While I suggest starting by doing it yourself and then potentially delegating tasks, different strategies work for different individuals.

Throughout this six-month period, it’s recommended to minimize your focus on analytics. It's fine to occasionally check in if you'd like, but don’t invest too much thought or analysis into it. The reason behind this is that, with this type of strategy, it's better not to constantly monitor progress. Instead, it's best to trust in a proven system and have faith in the process. Once the six months have passed, you can then begin to review and analyze your analytics.

ASSESS + ITERATE

Now, it's time to dive into your analytics and observe which pins are performing the best. Look for patterns or commonalities among them. Is there a particular element that consistently stands out? It could be the presence of a call-to-action button, pins related to a specific topic that resonates with Pinterest users, a particular design style, or pins featuring your own face. By identifying these common denominators, you can start to gain insights into what works best for your Pinterest strategy.

However, it's important to note that this analysis should only be done after at least six months of consistent pinning. This time frame ensures that you have gathered enough data to make informed decisions. Once you have the necessary data, you can move forward, assess your findings, and iterate your approach based on what you've learned.

The key to a successful and sustainable Pinterest strategy lies in allowing sufficient time for it to work. It's crucial to give it a full six months, and perhaps even up to nine months, especially during the middle phase, which can be challenging if you constantly monitor its progress. Instead, focus on other important tasks and avoid fixating on every small change. By giving it time and not obsessively watching it, you allow the strategy to work in your favor.
